I was asked to review Rapid BeagleBoard Prototyping with MATLAB and Simulink by Dr. Xuewu Dai and Dr. Fei Qin. The book and more details are available here: https://bit.ly/17mZV0l.
Having worked on research in this field (see: https://mattbilsky.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Interfacing_BeagleBoard_with_Simulink_and_Arduino) I am happy to see that people are furthering the available knowledge on the subject. The book does an excellent job of not just clearly stating all the steps to get started but giving images and tips to help clarify the process. The early chapters cover both the procedure to get a standard test setup up and running. Also steps to test that each component in the system is working, a necessity with a process as complicated as getting the BeagleBoard and MATLAB to play nicely together, are covered. In further chapters the book gives an overview of many different input and output techniques which the user can easily extend to their own projects. The last chapters on Video processing provide helpful algorithms and methods for object tracking which offer a great starting point for more advanced camera based operations. I believe this book is a great way for a new user to the BeagleBoard to become familiar with its power and how to combine it with the rich tools available in MATLAB and Simulink.
